My Grandfather   This is a picture of my 5th great grand father's home. He built it in 1789 here in White County in the Hickory Valley area. He was the first settler in White County and the county was named in his honor. He was born in 1751 in Wythe county VA. He served in the American Rev. war. He was in the Battle's at Brandywine, Germantown and Stoney Pointe. He was a fife player during the war. He was a land Surveyer, Farmer and Indian fighter. One of his oldest daughter was captured by the Indians, here in White County TN never to be found. John married Martha Phillips Woodson in 1782 in Lurenburg County VA. They had nine children: Woodson Phillips, Pleasant, John White Jr., Elizabeth, Mary, Martha,Susanna, Nancy, Sarah . John died in 1846 in White County TN and is buried at the Old Union cemetery.
